My basement sounds like a data center with all of the fans I have running down there to help things dry out after all of the rain.
This little corner of my website is where I collect things from the everyday goings-on in my life. It’s a chronicle, exhibit, and junk-drawer all at once. I have not had a social media profile in quite a few years now, so this part of my website fills a similiar purpose to what those places did for me in years past.

I’ve enjoyed getting into Elixir again and having the BEAM virtual machine available.
I’ve settled into a “bachelor” meal that I like to make when the kids are at their mother’s house on the weekend: farinata and a cold beer. I got the batter put together for dinner this evening. It only takes a few minutes to do; I just have to remember to do it early so it has enough time to sit all day.
I had a no-judgment realization today that I spend far more time planning to write or building tools to help with writing than I do any actual writing.
Fireflies are one of my favorite things about living here, and I haven’t yet taken the time this summer to be outside in the late evening just to enjoy them. This changes now.
The house is just about in order this morning… just in time for the chaos to arrive again.
Losing my job last month has certainly upped the stress level around here, especially given that I’m still in the middle of going through a divorce. I must say, though, I’m quite content to no longer be working for a billionaire.
I think I’d forgotten how much of a joy it is to wake up early and hack on my website a bit before starting the rest of my day.
I’m falling asleep in front of the television before the sun sets, like an old man, these days.
I have really run out of steam on projects around the house. And there is still an endless list of things to do around here.
An unease about where I fit into things is a thread you can follow throughout my entire time of making a living by doing things with computers. But I’m not sure I’ve ever had more questions about where I fit into all of it than I do now.
The busier and more packed-full the day before, the earlier my brain starts up, craving some space.
The morning hours are mine. They are my time to get my thoughts in order before the world wakes up and the pressures of life start to wear my energy away.
My son wanted to have a “dude night,” so we ate the pizza we ordered right out of the box and played Ori and the Blind Forest.
I woke this morning having received nice notes from multiple friends, which makes me happy and feel loved.
I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on how much of a whirlwind the last two months of my life have been—let alone the last year. The last couple of months have been mostly good things; the eight before that… not so much.
I’ve gathered two more bags of clothing to take to the second-hand store as I slowly weed through my possessions, letting go of what I no longer need or want. It’s not much, but it’s a start.
I’ve faced so much intense rejection over the past year that any time I feel loved, or even when someone just wants to be around me, I can’t help but get all teary-eyed.
Sorting through the difference between simple and easy is a constant source of stress in my life.
I have been having conversations lately that are causing me to reflect on my roots, or rather, the lack thereof. I find myself envious of my friends who have these rich, long histories woven into the fabric that makes them who they are.
