WYSIWYG editors on the web are still a huge pain to build, but I’m pretty happy with how Theodore’s is shaping up.
The Nest Hello has been great for watching neighbors steal peaches from our tree while we’ve been away!
And tomorrow I need to deal with the ridiculous amount of email that I’ve completely ignored for the last week.

Last minute taco run before heading to Scotland.
Breaking my writing into smaller blocks has really helped me maintain momentum over longer periods of time by being able to focus on smaller pieces of a big idea.
Its been really cool seeing some interest (however small) around @theodore_app. Its been a while since I’ve announced something to the world (been mostly do behind-the-scenes stuff with my consulting) and I’d been piling the self-doubt on. Thanks for the kind words all!
I finally put up a splash page for Theodore! https://theodore.app/ I’m pretty happy with out this turned out. Be sure to sign up for the waiting list if it seems like something that would be useful to you.
I’ve been fighting with continuous integration pipelines all day instead of writing code. Those dev-ops folks must… https://t.co/sKmelgWXCW
My wife and I are taking our two kids over to Scotland for the month of July. Looking forward to being there but dr… https://t.co/0ITDucg2FR
I’ve been spending a lot of time on the administrative side of Theodore and it feels good. I gotten the unexciting bits done like continuous integration, localization, code sharing, and getting a test suite set up. I think all of this stuff will help me maintain focus with the sporadic frequency that I’m able to work on Theodore.
I love getting nice notes from strangers on the internet.
I just bought my first laptop in six years and my first non-Apple laptop in fifteen years. I’m both nervous, excited, and still very skeptical.
I’ve been getting back into photograph and, I’ve got to say, the new Lightroom CC is pretty great. I love having all of my photos everywhere while still having reasonably advanced editing tools without being locked into Apple Photos.
Imported a bunch of old tweets and few old blog posts that I had written. Its awesome seeing my website finally come together!
Got working copy set up on my iPhone as a rudimentary way to post notes on the go. I hope to build UI for this in the future but this working great for now.
I really need to start going through all of the topic pages on my website and writing content. So many placeholders at the moment.
Been having lots of ideas around making an internet-connected thermal printer again. My daughter enjoyed it so much and I had a blast making it the first time. 🤔
I’ve really been enjoying hacking on my personal website again!
Current status: making coq au vin and listening to the Skyrim soundtrack. 🤓
Not just writing the copy for the page, although that is a good place to start if I’m stuck. Sometimes I’ll just start writing done my goals or jotting down any words or phrases I’d like to see in the UI.
When I’m facing a design problem, my instinct is always open my tools get to work. This is fine for small UI elements, like buttons, etc. but almost never works for larger pieces. You know what almost always helps move things along? Writing.
What a productive day. I guess I got some mental clarity after staring the highway for 9 hours yesterday. 🤷♂️
Everyone knows to skip the part of a recipe where it says “drain the fat,” right?

I’ve been working on a big side project lately and treating it much more like I do my client projects. This means roadmaps, issues & milestones instead of just coding with the wind. I’ve had much less self-discouragement with it, I assume because I see issues closed everyday.

I always enjoy the idea of house projects much more than doing those projects.
I’ve been getting the itch to redo my (rather sparse) website. Somebody stop me before I jump down that rathole.
These tamales that I just bought say “no lard” like it’s a good thing.
Quiet, early mornings with a cup of coffee and klacky keyboard are my happy place.

Done it off and on over the years but I was recently reminded how valuable it is to remember what I was feeling during various bits of life.
I’ve been journaling a lot more lately. It’s incredible how much it helps me clear my head.
Getting my portfolio together is always a depressing experience. So much stuff I’ve worked is either gone or never saw the light of day.
We read through a travel journal with our daughter of a trip we took her on to Ireland. It was expensive and not-at-all easy but so worth it
Why I love working from home: Just got a text from my wife that there are warm cookies in the kitchen.
Achievement unlocked: hung my laundry to dry on a line outside of a window in Italy.

Just got the best compliment ever from my daughter on my culinary skills: “you grown-ups are the best cookers ever”
At O’Hare, “G” seems like Midwest/obese wing.
Cleaning out my Trello account of old, abandoned projects. With a glass a whiskey. Happy Friday.
Exploring places to stay in Italy…should we explore or go with what we know. Its not how we roll but I think this trip deserves the latter.
Making some poutine which is basically the opposite of a New Year’s resolution.
I started working on a really silly iOS app over the long weekend. Hoping I get get out by the end of the week.
Going back to Italy again in the spring. I can’t get enough of that place.
What kind of monster follows the “wipe off pan” part of a recipe?
Getting a random, sincere email from a visitor to my website still leaves me with a good feeling that is absent from any social network.
I love the weekly email that I get from the person that grows my food about how things are going at the farm. The exact opposite of Soylet.
Power outages in the middle of writing code is no way to start a Friday morning.
I’ve been hacking a lot on personal projects lately. Not sure if I’ll ever release but it feels good to work on “wouldn’t it be cool?” ideas

Our old house is finally done being rewired today. Now to figure out the weird networking connectivity problems.
